About Us

Way Broader was born in Chicago by and for theater lovers. Theater is an amazing art form but it's by its nature ephemeral. For all the monumental work put into putting on even a small show, for all the amazing impact that theater can have on its audience, there was no lasting place to track and remember it all.

Chicago's theater scene is spectacular. From world-class companies like Steppenwolf and Goodman to storefront ensembles and festivals it entertains and inspires. However, once the lights go down it all-too-often disappears: some companies keep no public archives, and those that do sometimes disappear when the company shuts down.

After years of trying to keep paper programs, jotting down notes, and searching for information that could disappear from the internet at any time, I wanted a better way. A place to track what you've seen, rediscover shows you forgot you loved, and celebrate Chicago theater. Not just Broadway tours and the marquee theater companies, but with a way broader view of Chicago theater.

Way Broader exists to make that possible. It's a place for people who love live performances and want to share their experiences with their future selves and the broader theater-going community.

The author's favorite theater experiences of the past twenty years (no particular order):

  • The 12-hour production All Our Tragic by The Hypocrites, catered by Sultan's Market
  • Yippee Ki Yay Merry Christmas at the MCL Theater with my family for Christmas
  • Méfiez-Vous de la Vache-Garou (Beware the Were-Cow!) at the 2013 Chicago Fringe Festival
